My name is Brooke Kaye, I am a senior history major in my last semester, and this is my second internship within the UCF history program. This was the first week of the new semester, therefore, a new internship experience. I have chosen to be a part of the Bicentennial exhibit in order to work on a physical exhibit and help with researching the topics at hand.
On Wednesday, we had our first meeting with all of the interns together before we got started on our own projects. We had introductions, and learned about everyone's interests. The meeting covered the project was in Teams, and what to do for the files. It also included the list of field trips that we will be partaking in over the course of the semester. I am excited to explore the locations with the groups. Personally, I am most looking forward to the O.C. Regional History Center field trip, at the Wreaths Across America event, I met the CFO and the CEO of the center, so I would like to see the organization that they are a part of in person with everyone. Luckily, I can use my past knowledge from my summer internship in order to correctly access and go through the files.
Next week, we will begin separate meetings within our group, and will also participate in training. My personal goals within the internship is to further grow my confidence in working within a group. My professional goals include researching and writing for a local exhibit. I believe it would be important for me to start working in physical locations as opposed to just online.
Looking back at my first blog of the summer internship, I described my feelings going into the project. In that blog post, I discussed how I wanted to reach out more within the history program, and I feel a lot more confident in who I was able to meet. When going to UCF after my last college, I felt pretty lost having to start over. I had only met a few people in North Carolina within their history department, and I believed I was going to be lost for the rest of my college experience. Luckily, I was able to meet great people and work with them here at UCF. Going into this new internship, I am a lot more assured in my abilities as opposed to my timid nature of the past.
